Members Train on Critical Skills
Tuesday March 19, 2024
They say "you can't train too hard for a job that can kill you." It is a dramatic statement, but it is most definitely true! Firefighters need to stay sharp to keep themselves out of the danger zone. That's where the annual refresher training comes in.
On Monday March 18, members donned their PPE and took on the snow to practice three of the "Critical Skills" that all members should know. The focus of the night was pulling hose lines, flowing water and executing an exterior fire attack. When minutes matter, any member regardless of role could be called upon to use these skills to knock down a fire.
Despite the cold and snow sneaking back into the region, members stayed warm while pulling hose lines around the parking lot of Station 2 in Sardinia. Many good talking points were also raised during the evolutions by members of all experience levels. An engaged team is a successful one!
Training on critical skills will continue throughout the spring to cover topics such as CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, traffic control, traffic safety, deploying ground ladders and operating master stream devices.
